Post PNG, in its effort to continually promote Flora & Fauna, will be releasing yet another stamp issue featuring coconut fruits.

Coconuts, as featured are nutritious and are a staple diet for many island nations in the tropics.

In this issue, the four postage stamp sets feature green coconuts, the four sheetlet stamps feature dry coconuts, while the souvenir sheet features a new shoot.  Coconut, of which copra is produced, is a long-time commodity contributing to the economy of Papua New Guinea through copra exports and is regulated under the government’s own Copra Marketing Board which falls under the Ministry of Agriculture.

Coconut provides a nutritious source of juice, meat, milk and oil that has fed and nourished many the world over. In many island countries, coconut is the main staple-diet. The milk is used in almost all the local dishes as enrichment substance. The shells and husk are also useful to the enterprising individuals. The shell can be carved into water containers, drinking cups, soup scoops, hair combs or shirt buttons. The husk, once cut in half together with the shell, can make very good flower pots. Having released an issue on copra already, Post PNG now decided to dwell further into featuring the fruit itself. Featured below are features on postage stamps with respective denominations assigned.
